Film Noir Project
During this outcome you will learn about the media production process and use that process whist working in production teams. Each team will produce a video sequence in a Film Noir style. These video sequences will be pasted together to form a short feature film (some mainstream films such as ‘Sin City’, ‘Grindhouse’ and ‘4 Rooms’ adopted this approach).
Below are some details about the tasks that are to be completed during the three stages of the media production process -
1. Preproduction
Every member of the class is to produce a treatment, 2 pages of script and storyboard for a short ‘Film Noir’ video sequence.
The class will then be divided into Production Teams and each team will choose a script to produce that will be expended to a sequence that will be approx. 5 – 10 minutes in duration.
Each member of the team will assigned a specific role (or roles) for the production of the video sequence. Each team member will document their role(s) in a Production Folio. At this stage various tasks will have to be completed, such as script writing, story boarding, location scouting, casting, production scheduling, costume/make-up/prop buying etc.
2. Production
Each team films their script using their script and storyboard and other preproduction materials.
3. Post-production
Each team edits together the raw footage to complete the sequence. At this stage any sound effects, music, voice over, etc will be added to the final production.
Make sure you give your team time for each production stage.
Remember - every minute of a finished production can take one hour (or more!!) in the edit suite.
On completion of this unit you will be assessed on -
1. A Production Folio/website
2. A Completed Video Sequence
